Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur is the commercial and transport hinge of eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is a North Eastern Railway headquarters, a wholesale market, and — through the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority estate — a manufacturing city. It is a company with a registered office in the city, a shed at GIDA, a godown on the Deoria road, and a GST registration that has to describe all three.

Away from GIDA, Gorakhpur’s books are the books of trade: kirana and hardware wholesale, building materials, automobile parts, cloth, and the commission-agent trades that still sit alongside GST invoices.
